Hudson Horizons: March 2007

Message From Phil Farrelly, President

This edition of Hudson Horizons features an article about Hudson’s new RapidPick Workcell. It may interest readers to know that this new product is an outgrowth of the same technology that made our ProLink Express platform possible, and that the RapidPick is really just a small portion of the ProLink, designed to stand alone for users who may not need, or be able to afford, automating an entire molecular biology process.

Even though it is a small workcell, the RapidPick contains product features of the ProLink that are just not available on automated systems from any other vendors, including the ability to use various parts of this small Workcell for different tasks even while it is performing its main purpose of picking colonies from agar plates, or re-arraying growth cells among different plates. It also offers complete data tracking so that, even if it is used together with instruments from other vendors, scientists can track all samples processed by the RapidPick throughout any of its processes.

This is one example of how Hudson has moved our extensive experience building large, integrated systems into the realm of smaller, more targeted products which inherit the same technologies applied to the larger applications. It is our goal to fill in the missing pieces of technology that will make fully-automated Proteomics possible and practicable so as to advance genetic science well beyond its current state. The new RapidPick represents a major step in this direction at the very front-end of the research process.
